Our old friend and brother, Mo Allen,
passed away last Saturday. Living in Gainesville, I was able to stay in
touch with Mo. When I was lucky enough to catch some fish, I would
occasionally take some to Mo. He lived in the same house that he lived
in when he worked for the Chapter, and was essentially the same person,
notwithstanding the fact that he retired as an assistant to the Sergeant
at Arms of the U S House of Representatives. He was very happy that many
of the "boys" he knew in the fraternity went off and were very
successful and when they came to Gainesville would come by to see him.
He considered it his finest hour when he was honored at the reunion we
had two years ago. The sorrow of losing a friend is mitigated by the
knowledge that he had a good life to the end and that he had so many
friends during his life.
"The first thing, you go to start out with a clear conscience and be friendly to people. And the people will be friendly with you. That’s how I feel about it. That’s the best quality you can acquire in life. That way you can bring a little happiness to people. If you bring a little happiness to people, they will bring happiness to you." - Mo Allen
